The importance of prayer We believe that prayer is an important part of our relationship with God. Prayer gives an opportunity to communicate with our creator, day by day – not only to ask his help when life is hard, but to give thanks for all his blessings, and to say “sorry” when we have done wrong.
Our Prayer Card for January reads:
Lord, we pray… For those who lead the Church in the interregnum. For our new Vicar, James Halstead, his wife Holly, and their children as they prepare to move to Mottram this month. For our Church family as we worship and pray together. For our worship this Epiphany as we with the Magi meet with the baby born to be Saviour of the World. For those who lead the Christianity Explored sessions, and those who seek Jesus.
For our own homes and families…… our neighbours … all those who we love and care for….
For the people in the Horn of Africa; for sufficient food and water in this time of famine. For Egypt, Bahrain, Libya, and Syria, for leaders and people, that peace and democracy will overpower conflict and tyranny. For the world in which we live, beset by financial uncertainty and insecurity. For those who have insufficient income for their daily needs. …. Those forced out of their homes through debt. For the sick.. in hospital or being cared for at home. For those who are disabled and rely on Carers for their daily needs. For those who live alone and are lonely and shut-in.
For the dying… for peace from their fears and for the love of Jesus in their hearts. For those who have died and are at rest with you. For those who are saddened by the loss of loved ones. For children left without parents to guide and protect them.
“Where is the One who has been born to be King of the Jews?” Matt. 2 v 2
The Prayer Trail During our Heritage Open Weekend, in September 2010, we laid out a Prayer Trail around the Parish Church.
This proved to be popular, and a few people suggested that it would be helpful to have a copy of the trail for use in private prayer. We have therefore created a downloadable version which we invite you to and use as part of your own personal or family prayer.
The Trail offers an opportunity to take time out to reflect and meditate on life. You could follow the trail alone or share with a friend, spend ten minutes or an hour, and we hope it will give you an introduction to the importance of prayer in daily life.
